This Weekend in Canadian Touring Car …

Rémy Audette’s Debut at Mosport

Ste-Anne-des-Lacs (Québec), July 20, 2012.– This weekend, the Canadian Touring Car Championship will be hosted at the Mosport circuit, near Toronto, as part of the big “American Le Mans” event.  Rémy Audette has already won twice at Mosport in the past few years with his open wheel (American F2000 series) car but this will be Quebec driver’s first time competing on the track in a Touring Car. This will therefore be a new discovery for him at the wheel of his Dimensions Doors/Novatech Acura RSX.

After watching his brother Mathieu claim the first two season opening events at this track, Rémy Audette is coming into this double-header with confidence : ” the fact that my brother won here in May doesn’t put any extra pressure on me but it does give me confidence in knowing that I have such a good car that can succeed here.  Time for me to step up to the plate ” confides Rémy, winner at this circuit last year in the F2000 series, on route to claiming the 2011 championship title. Rémy also won in F2000 at Mosport in 2010.  Will the old saying “never two without three” hold true? ” I hope so!  I would really like to win here again this year.  The competition level in Canadian Touring Car is very high but I have faith in my chances ” shares the Quebec driver.

” It’s the first time I’ll be driving a Super Touring car on this track, which is very different from driving an open wheel car but I still know the car and the course very well. It shouldn’t be a very difficult adaptation, which I’ll have time to sort out during Friday’s practice ” explains the Audette Racing Team driver, who adds : ” our Dimensions Doors/Novatech Acura RSX will have the same set-up as we had at Mont-Tremblant, where my brother competed two weekends ago and got on the podium both times. We know it’s a reliable car and everything should go fairly smoothly ” he says.

For Rémy Audette, his return to the Audette Racing Team comes two weeks after driving a B-Spec class (for sub-compact stock cars) : ” I had a nice experience with the Lombardi Honda Fit and it’s obviously fun battling with someone for a position but the B-Spec class cars are much less powerful than the Super Touring cars.  On a fast track like at Mosport, I’m definitely happy to be back in our Super Touring car ” he concludes.

Two Canadian Touring Car races are on the schedule this weekend at Mosport, starting on Saturday at 7pm and then again on Sunday at 5:45pm. They will be preceded by today’s practice session from 5pm to 5:30pm and qualifying tomorrow morning (8:45 to 9:15). The “American Le Mans” weekend is the biggest event to hit the Ontario racetrack this year.

The Audette Racing Team is contesting the entire Canadian Touring Car Championship with Mathieu and Rémy Audette as alternating drivers.  The team benefits form the support of Dimensions Doors, Novatech, Les Extrusions du Nord, Verre Select, Jeld Wen, OPM, Amusements Spectaculaire, Les Moulures PFJV, Evotech, Milette Portes, Gulf, Mec-Inov and Omnitech.
